Davis Cup Player of the Quarterfinals

After polling over 10,000 tennis fans worldwide, www.daviscup.com announced that Andy Roddick edged out Argentina’s Juan Ignacio Chela for Player of the Quarterfinals.

Along with Chela, Tursunov, and Guccione, the ITF acknowledged Andy’s dynamic performance against Chili in April’s quarterfinal match-up. The fans weighed in and 39% agreed that Andy’s closing match earned him Player of the Quarterfinals.

Uganda: Olobo picked for Davis Cup team

United States based star player Patrick Olobo will lead Uganda’s perennial campaign to get promoted from being the lowest ranked Davis Cup team in the Euro/Africa Zone V grouping.
 

Olobo has already been assured of a place on the Uganda’s 4-man team that will contest in the tournament due July 17-23 in Marsa, Malta.
“He is not coming here for trials, he will join the team in Malta,” Kasumba, a Uganda Tennis Federation (UTA) official disclosed yesterday.

UTA is due to hold trials this month to select three other players that will constitute the team.Highly favoured Patrick Ochan, Ronald Ssemanda, Daniel Ruyanga and Godfrey Uzunga are already training for the trials at Lugogo Tennis Club.
Twelve countries have joined the race for four slots that will be available in Malta. Uganda faces Azerbaijan, Benin, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Iceland, Kenya, Madagsascar, Mauritius, San Marino, Senegal and hosts Malta in the race for promotion.

Uganda has for the last eight years failed to get promoted into the more competitive Group III.
